Where in the World is GEO 660 on May 29?

Over the next few weeks, we will hear from students and faculty as they take the Department of Geological Sciences’ iconic field course, GEO 660. The first blog post is here.

May 29, 2022—Faculty member Charles Kerans checked in from the GEO 660 Field Camp, sending a beautiful panorama of the group from the Valley of Fires, thought to be one of the youngest lava flows in the continental U.S. (thought to have occurred between 1500 and 5000 years ago. The flow is located near Carrizozo, New Mexico, north of their previous location.
