Visit the Department
General visitor information: The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences spans two UT Austin buildings, the Jackson Geological Sciences Building (JGB) located west of Waller Creek from San Jacinto Blvd. at E 23rd Street and theĀ E.P. Schoch Building (EPS) located between JGB and Speedway. Several CapMetro buslines stop along San Jacinto Blvd., and the closest parking garage is the San Jacinto Garage (SJG).
From the East Mall and past the outdoor seating area (The Munib and Angela Masri Family Courtyard), the department’s office (JGB 2.112) is just to your left after entering the building. This will be the second (ground) floor.
Prospective students: Are you are a high school junior or senior or perhaps currently at another college or university and thinking about transferring to the UT Austin Jackson School of Geosciences?
We have set aside one day each month during the fall and spring semesters to visit with and welcome prospective students. Parents are welcome to attend; these meetings do not influence the admissions process.
During your visit you will gain an overview of the exciting programs and degree plans at the Jackson School by meeting with geosciences faculty, academic advising staff, and current students. To wrap up your visit, a current JSG undergraduate student will give you a tour of the building followed by lunch (our treat) on campus. This is a great way for both the prospective student and parent(s) to get a down-to-earth view on being a Jackson School student.
If this is something you are interested in, please make a reservation for a visit to BOTH the University and to the Jackson School of Geosciences at http://admissions.utexas.edu/visit. Registration is required due to limited space.
