Recording Studio

The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences makes modern instructional tools readily accessible to its students, faculty, and staff through the on-campus Recording Studio. Outfitted with a smartboard, green screen, Bluetooth microphones, and cameras, the Recording Room allows users to make a big visual impact without much technical effort.

The Recording Studio is designed primarily for instructors to augment their teaching. If a professor needs to miss class, or would like to pre-record a certain portion of class, they can film themselves on the green screen or writing on the smart board, and then have the power to fast forward or cut sections that don’t pertain to the lesson.

How to Get Started

Email Ty Lehman, who will do a walkthrough of the studio and go over all the equipment with you. Then you will get access to the room, located at JGB 2.318.

Once you get a lay of the land, you will be ready to record yourself. The technology has been streamlined and the space is set up so that anyone can record themselves without assistance.

  • Online course recordings
  • Virtual teaching presentations
  • Step-by-step instructional videos (which are especially good on the green screen)

Why record a lecture?

  • Students can refer to it later, pause, screenshot and replay sections they may not have fully grasped
  • If you need to miss a class, you can send students a recording of the scheduled lecture
  • You can speed up or skip over portions with dead air, such as when you’re writing on the board
  • It’s visually interesting and injects a little novelty into a class!

The Recording Studio is available to all students, researchers, faculty members, and staff at the Jackson School of Geosciences.
