Admissions
The majority of Jackson School undergraduates enter the school as incoming freshman who select geosciences during the process of their undergraduate application to The University of Texas at Austin. Everything students need to know to apply for undergraduate admission to both the Jackson School and The University of Texas at Austin can be found on the UT Office of Admissions website. Academic units at the university do not directly process admissions for incoming freshmen or external transfers.
Undergraduates already enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin may apply to enter the Jackson School as an internal transfer admission. Applications are accepted each spring for admission to the Jackson School the following fall semester. Visit the Jackson School’s Internal Transfers webpage for details about the application process, deadlines and upcoming information session dates.
All students apply to the Jackson School following the standard procedures for the university, as outlined in the UT Austin General Information and Undergraduate Catalog.
Visit the Jackson School
Interested students are encouraged to visit the Jackson School of Geosciences and The University of Texas at Austin prior to applying for admission. Prospective student events are scheduled throughout the year for incoming freshmen as well as transfer students.
High School & Non-UT College Students (External Transfers)
The Jackson School hosts prospective undergraduate information sessions for high school juniors or seniors and non-UT college students during the fall and spring semesters. Parents are encouraged and welcome to attend as well. These sessions are a way for us to welcome and introduce prospective students to the Jackson School and are not part of, nor do they influence the admissions process. JSG prospective student information sessions take place on Fridays and can be coordinated with other university prospective student events. Visit the UT Admissions Visit the Forty Aces webpage to preview and sign-up for an upcoming special interest session. Advance registration is required.
UT Transfer Students (Internal Transfers)
Internal transfer information sessions are offered during the fall and spring semester for any currently enrolled UT Austin student interested in transferring into a geosciences degree program. These session focus primarily on the Jackson School’s internal transfer requirements and application process. Students that attend an information session have the opportunity to schedule a one-on-one advising appointment with a geosciences academic advisor. Additional details about the internal transfer process, deadlines, and a listing of scheduled information sessions is available on the JSG Internal Transfer webpage.
